Song
Look Up From the Lock Screen
The song starts where too many of our nights end: three a.m., still scrolling, one more sleepless night. And then one small decision changes everything — he steps out on the porch. That's all. He doesn't go on a retreat or climb a mountain. He walks ten feet, and the sky ambushes him. David knew that ambush. Psalm 8 was almost certainly written by a man who had spent long nights outdoors — a shepherd boy turned king who never forgot what the Judean sky looked like from a hillside. 'When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place...' And then the question that has knocked the wind out of stargazers for three thousand years: 'What is mankind that you are mindful of them?' Notice that David's smallness didn't crush him — it amazed him. There are two ways to feel small. The screen makes you feel small by comparison: everyone's life looks better, everyone's opinion is louder, and the feed never runs out of people outshining you. The sky makes you feel small by scale — and then Psalm 8 turns and says the God who set Jupiter in place is mindful of you. He cares for you. The screen's smallness shrinks your soul. The sky's smallness enlarges it, because it ends in being known. Here's the quiet diagnosis in this first verse of the song: at three a.m. we are all looking for light. That's why the phone is in our hand — something in us is scanning for glory, for connection, for a word that we matter. The song doesn't shame the scrolling; it just says you're looking in the wrong direction, at a light that's four inches wide when there's one overhead that's a hundred thousand light-years across. The ambush is waiting ten feet from your door. Tonight, trade ten minutes of the feed for the porch. Let yourself be ambushed.
"Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth."
A song for the road you're on.

Look Up From the Lock Screen Dirt Road Gospel Music DirtRoadGospelMusic.com [Verse 1] Three a.m. and I'm still scrolling, one more sleepless night Stepped out on the porch and got ambushed by the light More stars up there than sand on every shoreline of the Earth And He calls 'em each by name — guess He knows what mine is worth [Chorus 1] Don't miss the message written in the sky Every star's a sermon, every moon's a sign That light's been running toward you a hundred million years So look up from the lock screen — it finally landed here [Verse 2] The King planet crowned the King star in the Lion, burning white Then it fused with bright Venus — one beacon in the night Now the science calls it retrograde when a wanderer stands still But it parked above a manger — you can call that what you will [Chorus 2] Don't miss the message written in the sky Every star's a sermon, every moon's a sign That light's been running toward you a hundred million years So look up from the lock screen — it finally landed here [Bridge] The day He died the sun went black at noon And over Zion rose a blood-red Passover moon When the Earth gets in the middle, all her sunsets paint its face Even shadows tell the story of the cross and of His grace [Final Chorus] I won't miss the message, You wrote it in the sky Every star's Your sermon, every moon's Your sign Your light's been running toward me since before I had a name I looked up from the lock screen — I'll never be the same [Outro] Put the phone down... look up That light left home a million years ago Just to find you
