Song

Night Unto Night

TruthTestimonyAssurance

The song opens with a man standing in a pasture doing something most of us have forgotten how to do: nothing. Just standing there while the daylight burns away. And into that stillness comes a sermon that has been preached every night since the fourth day of creation — night unto night speaks knowledge. That line is lifted almost straight out of Psalm 19, and it is worth noticing what David actually claims there. He does not say the heavens suggest the glory of God, or hint at it for those inclined to believe. He says they declare it. They pour forth speech. The grammar is relentless: day after day, night after night, no intermission, no off-season. The most persistent preacher in the world is hanging over your head right now, and his congregation includes every human being who has ever lived. Here is the uncomfortable part: a sermon that never stops preaching can become a sermon we never start hearing. The man in the song had to stand still in a pasture before he heard it all the same. Most of us live under a roof, behind a screen, inside a schedule — and the heavens go on declaring to an empty pew. The glory does not diminish when we stop looking. We do. God built a witness into the architecture of the world itself, one that speaks every language and reaches every shoreline. Before there were Bibles, before there were preachers, before there was a single written word of Scripture, there was this: a sky so extravagant that the only honest response to it is worship. The stars have been making God's case for a very long time. The question this song asks in its first breath is simply whether you will step outside and take your seat in the congregation. Tonight, if the sky is clear, go stand in it for five unhurried minutes. Don't bring the phone. The sermon has already started.

"Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge."
Psalm 19:2

[Verse 1]
Stood out in the pasture as the daylight burned away
A million silver witnesses came out to have their say
No voice, no words were spoken, but I heard it all the same
Night unto night speaks knowledge — every star declares His name

[Chorus 1]
Don't miss the message, it's written in the sky
Every star's a sermon, every moon's a sign
The heavens keep declaring, they've been preaching all along
Glory to the Maker — the night sky is His song

[Verse 2]
He wrote it for the wise men in a rising eastern light
The Star out of Jacob came burning through the night
It stopped above a manger like the world was standing still
Kings knelt down in starlight — and some are kneeling still

[Chorus 2]
Don't miss the message, it's written in the sky
Every star's a sermon, every moon's a sign
The heavens keep declaring, they've been preaching all along
Glory to the Maker — the night sky is His song

[Bridge]
The day He died the sun went dark at noon
The moon will run to blood before He's coming soon
So when the sky starts talking, child, don't you look away
The God who wrote the stars is writing you today

[Final Chorus]
I won't miss the message, You wrote it in the sky
Every star's Your sermon, every moon's Your sign
You hung them all in glory and You still know my name
I won't miss the message — Lord, I'll never be the same

[Outro]
Night unto night speaks knowledge
Don't miss it... He's calling your name
