A Heart to Know You
A quiet, weathered country song built straight out of Jeremiah 24 and 29 — the good figs and the letters to the exiles. A man loses everything he built and lands in a nowhere town where nobody knows his name, sure that God stayed behind with all he lost: “God don’t follow a man this far.” He quits praying somewhere on the road. Then, in the dark of a rented room, one bare voice cuts through: “I see you, son — I sent you here.” The chorus is the Lord’s answer, nearly word for word from Jeremiah 24:6–7 — I’ll give you a heart to know Me... I sent this road for your good, not your harm... I’ll plant you, I won’t pull you up... and you’ll come back with your whole heart. The bridge names Jeremiah’s shocking inversion: the “lucky ones” who never left were the bad figs; the carried-away, the ones who lost it all, were the first ripe figs God called good. And by the final chorus every pronoun has flipped — the promise has become testimony: “You gave me a heart to know You... I’ve come back with my whole heart.” Seven days for anyone in an unwanted season — a job lost, a marriage ended, a town never chosen, a hospital room, a rented ceiling — to discover that the road out here was sent, not stumbled into; that the nowhere town is holy ground; and that the God who sent the road gives the very heart that finds its way back to Him.
