Song

Sinking Without

DespairWeaknessSurrender

The song gives us a picture of need before it gives us a solution: “My hands are reaching for something above.” Those hands are empty. They are not gripping a plan, a paycheck, another person, or a polished explanation. They are simply reaching. That is often where real faith begins—not with feeling strong, but with finally admitting that what is below us cannot hold us. Peter knew that moment. At Jesus’ word, he climbed out of a boat and walked toward Him. The miracle was not that Peter became naturally fearless or suddenly understood how water works. The miracle was that Jesus said, “Come,” and Peter trusted the voice enough to leave the boat. Faith is not confidence in our balance; it is movement toward Christ because His word is trustworthy. The singer says, “Nothing fills this, nothing’s enough.” That confession can sound bleak, but it is also mercifully clear. It tells the truth about every substitute we keep asking to become our home. A promotion, a relationship, a distraction, even a good thing treated as an ultimate thing—none can bear the weight of a soul. Jesus does not shame the empty-handed person who reaches up. He calls that person toward Himself. Notice that Peter had to get down out of the boat. There may be a familiar place of control you need to leave, not because it is evil, but because you have mistaken it for safety. The first step may be an honest prayer, a confession to a trusted believer, or a decision to stop feeding a habit that keeps you numb. You do not have to see the whole path across the water. You need the next obedient step toward the One who said, “Come.” Today, let your reaching become more than desperation. Let it become direction. Christ is not somewhere above, distant from your need. He is near enough to call you by name and strong enough to receive every step you take toward Him.

"But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me."

[Intro]
The room is quiet, your side is cold
I reach for something I can't hold
Thought I knew how to carry on
But every piece of me knows something's wrong

[Verse 1]
I built my life like I had it made
Convinced myself I wasn't afraid
But in the silence late at night
I know the truth I can't outrun or fight
I was never meant to do this alone
Without you near me I'm not home

[Chorus]
I'm sinking, sinking without your love
Nothing fills this, nothing's enough
My hands are reaching for something above
I'm sinking, sinking without your love

[Verse 2]
Your voice could still the storm in me
Your arms the only place I breathe
I've chased a thousand empty things
Tried to find what only you can bring
And every road I walked away
Just led me back to where I should have stayed

[Chorus]
I'm sinking, sinking without your love
Nothing fills this, nothing's enough
My hands are reaching for something above
I'm sinking, sinking without your love

[Bridge]
Don't let me drift too far from you
There's nothing I can't face if you come through
I've seen the worst of who I am
And still you love me — I don't understand
That kind of love
That kind of love

[Final Chorus]
No longer sinking — found in your love
You're everything, you are enough
Still reaching, reaching — you lifted me up
No longer sinking — held in your love

[Outro — whispered/sung softly]
Without you I was never whole
You were always what I needed most
Not just a feeling, not just a face
You're the love no one else could replace
